Solar Energy and Wind Energy.Record Year for Both

Global Solar Energy capacity reaches 100GW landmark.

Worldwide solar energy production surpassed the 100 GW mark for the first time last year thanks mainly to the world?s?emerging economies,which offset a slowdown in European production.New installations within Europe dropped?dramatically?from almost 23GW the previous year to 17 GW last year, but solar energy capacity elsewhere in the world, rose from 8GW to 13 GW?of electricity in total.

Germany remains the global leader of solar capacity however, followed by China,Italy,The US and Japan.Even tiny little UK installed over 1GW for the very first time.
Wind Energy capacity grows 20% in 2012

Wind Energy had a record year in 2012 thanks to a rapid increase in production?in the United States and China as well as the UK, which saw total global capacity?increase dramatically?to some 282 gigawatts of energy.

Alongside the recent report of Solar energy capacity?breaking the 100 GW barrier last year as well,2012 was certainly a bumper year for Renewable Energy in general.

A record breaking total of 45 gigawatts of new wind turbines were installed throughout the world last year.China and the United States leading the way with 13GW each followed by Germany,India and us here?in the?United Kingdom, where some 2 GW alone was installed.

While China and the United States are well ahead in the global league table, the UK is now the sixth largest producer of wind energy and leads the world in offshore production with 3GW of capacity alone.

These increases,especially in solar energy capacity,certainly seem to contradict a report in January,by Bloomberg New Energy Finance that?global investment in all renewable energy had fallen by 11% in 2012.?And back in November, the International Energy Agency reported that?low-carbon energy was growing quickly,?thanks largely to governmental subsidies. But they also highlighted the fact that fossil fuels received $523bn in subsidies,6 times more than low-carbon energies,such as wind and solar energy receives.
